Time to read. Time to pause. Space to reflect.
“Words and Water was created from a belief that books deserve more than the fragments of time we can spare for them.”
We created Words and Water because we found ourselves reading in fragments.
Our Philosophy
We wanted to reclaim the experience of spending uninterrupted time with books and sharing that experience with others, in the landscapes that have inspired readers and writers for generations.
Words and Water was created by Rachel and Aimee, two lifelong readers who have always found joy in discovering books, walking through the Lake District and talking about the stories that stay with us long after the final page.
From Dorothy Wordsworth's journals to contemporary writing, this landscape invites us to pay closer attention to the world around us. Words and Water is rooted in that tradition of noticing.
Whether gathering for an afternoon, or retreating for a weekend dedicated to books, Words and Water is designed around a simple idea: creating space for reading and reflection in the company of others who value both.
Meaningful connection and quiet solitude need not be opposites. Our gatherings and retreats offer space for both.
Above all, we believe that slowing down is not an indulgence. It is a necessity. Only by making space to pause can we truly notice: the ideas within books, the details of a landscape and the connections we share with others.
